We need to understand that taking extra care of the planet is important, this is why we should continuously strive towards green energy. There are lots of alternative, eco-friendly energy sources you can use, such as solar or wind energy. What can you do to add green energy to your lifestyle? Keep on reading and find out.

When battery chargers and other electronics are not in use, unplug them. Chargers for devices like phones, music players, computers and others use small amounts of power any time they are in an outlet, even if you aren’t charging anything.

When doing laundry, try to use cold water. Almost 90 percent of energy consumed by washing machines is used when heating the water. If your detergent is decent, cold water will be as effective as hot when cleaning your laundry. Additionally, it is more energy-efficient if you are washing full loads instead of small ones.

If you currently use fuel oil for home heating, ask your local technician how you can switch over to biodiesel fuel. Depending on your system, you may be able to switch to biodiesel without having to make any modifications to your system. Biodiesel runs more efficiently, burns more clean, and costs you less during the winter.

If you have a dishwasher make sure you only run it when it is full. Dishwashers consume a similar amount of water and electricity regardless of whether it contains one dish or 20. Make sure you are using the energy saving settings on your dishwasher that will air-dry your dishes.

If you are considering the installation of home solar energy, make sure you are aware of how much energy you will receive during the winter months. This way, you aren’t beyond your capacity in the winter, and you have plenty of excess power in the summer. If you generate excess energy during the summer, with the right plan, your utility company will send you a check!

Swap out your tank water heater for a tankless type. Tankless versions still need electricity or gas to heat water, but they are more effective in heating solely the water necessary instead of a huge tank of water constantly. Tankless water heaters are available to purchase in many different sizes; you can heat water for your whole house, or just a single faucet.

Use LED lights on the holidays to save electricity. A U.S. Department of Energy study shows that people waste a lot of energy on traditional Christmas lights. One study conducted by the Department of Energy found that if everyone in the U.S. switched to these lights, more than two billion kilowatt hours worth of power would be saved. That amount of power could run 200,000 homes for one full year. You could reduce the amount of your own utility bill as well.

It’s very important to use green technology now than it ever has been. While every source of power will impact the world in some way, green sources are the best options for lowering our impact on the world we live in. Now that you have learned a few tips from this article, you will be better able to save money and make the planet friendly for future generations.
